Aviation fuel risk highlights need for scalable alternatives, says Syntholene CEO

Syntholene Energy (TSXV: ESAF; OTC: SYNTF) CEO Dan Sutton says tightening jet fuel supply is exposing structural vulnerabilities in aviation and other hard-to-abate sectors that rely on liquid hydrocarbons. Speaking with Kitco Mining on April 27, 2026, Sutton said the industry is “100% exposed” to fossil fuel supply chains and described aviation fuel as “often the canary in the coal mine when it comes to supply chain constraints.” The company is advancing a geothermal-powered synthetic fuel project in Iceland aimed at improving the economics of alternative fuels. Sutton said integrating heat and electricity into hydrogen production could reduce costs by about 70%, while enabling scalable, drop-in fuels compatible with existing infrastructure. The demonstration facility is targeting completion by the end of 2026 and is supported by an expression of interest from Icelandair for 250 million liters over a decade. “Everybody is looking for more of this fuel,” Sutton said, pointing to growing demand across airlines and energy markets.
