Peter Boockvar says gold is becoming the world’s “neutral asset”

Peter Boockvar, Chief Investment Officer at One Point BFG Wealth Partners, says the bond market is increasingly dictating financial conditions as inflation remains elevated and long-term yields rise. Speaking with Kitco News Senior Anchor Jeremy Szafron, Boockvar said central banks are “no longer our friend” and argued that the long end of the Treasury market has taken control from the Federal Reserve. Boockvar discussed gold’s recent pullback, saying the metal’s broader role as a global “neutral asset” remains intact as investors reassess currency, trade, and geopolitical risks. He also examined stress in private credit, the pressure facing lower-income consumers, and the concentration of risk in an equity market heavily tied to artificial intelligence. Boockvar said the AI trade is increasingly running into physical constraints, including energy, commodities, and infrastructure.
