Rick Rule: Gold pullback, Fed pressure could set up mining M&A wave

Rick Rule, President and CEO of Rule Investment Media, says gold’s pullback below $4,500 is “heaven sent” for long-term buyers, while political pressure on the Federal Reserve could eventually push rates lower and create a more supportive setup for gold. Speaking with Kitco Mining’s Digging Deep on May 27, Rule said higher U.S. interest rates have strengthened the dollar and pressured gold, but added that any eventual rate shift could produce a “dramatic” move in the metal. Rule also said major miners may need acquisitions to replace production, pointing to development-stage assets as a potential M&A “sweet spot” as companies seek scale, index demand and lower costs of capital. The discussion also covered U.S. Ex-Im financing for Perpetua Resources, Mexican government backing for Vizsla Silver amid Sinaloa security concerns, Challenger Gold’s Argentina strategy, potential targets including OceanaGold and B2Gold, Agnico Eagle’s acquisition approach, Sunshine Silver’s IPO, and the 2026 Rule Symposium.
