Kootenay Silver’s La Cigarra PEA marks shift toward development

Kootenay Silver (TSXV: KTN; OTCQX: KOOYF) is advancing its 100%-owned La Cigarra silver project in Chihuahua, Mexico, after releasing a June 15, 2026 preliminary economic assessment outlining a 14-year open-pit project with a $763 million after-tax NPV, 41% after-tax IRR, $332 million in initial capital, and a 1.9-year payback. Speaking with Kitco Mining’s Kitco Spotlight, President and CEO Jim McDonald said the PEA marks a turning point for the company, stating that it is “transitioning us from explorer into a developer.” McDonald said La Cigarra’s location in Mexico’s Parral mining district, near active silver operations and existing infrastructure, supports the development case as Kootenay moves toward further drilling, de-risking work, and future studies. He also discussed the project’s leverage to higher silver prices, a potential 10–20 million-ounce gap zone target, Columba’s expanded 60,000-meter drill program, strategic options for Kootenay’s Mexico silver portfolio, and why he believes silver has entered a multi-year bull market.
