Video News/This Week In Focus

The Treasury tried to stop this and it didn't work | Gold above $4,600

(Kitco News) - Several relationships that have guided precious-metals investors for years appeared to fail at once this week, three analysts told Kitco News anchor Jeremy Szafron in separate interviews from which they drew strikingly different conclusions. Gary Wagner of TheGoldForecast.com said geopolitical risk, which moved gold for four decades, did not lift the metal after the U.S.-Iran conflict, and he pointed to a chart level he believes decides the next move. Saxo Bank's Ole Hansen argued that AI borrowers are now competing with governments for the same lenders, and noted that roughly 70% of exchange copper sits in a country consuming about 7% of it. Hansen framed the week as a shortage of things in copper and a shortage of trust in gold. Thomas Kaplan, chairman of the Electrum Group, called the moment comparable to 1987 and said he views another tenfold rise in gold as "inevitable." U.S. public debt passed $40 trillion this week, and new Fed chair Kevin Warsh delivers his first Jackson Hole keynote on August 28.
