Royalty deals are getting bigger as mining costs rise | Brett Heath
Brett Heath, CEO of Metalla Royalty & Streaming, says rising borrowing costs and increasingly expensive mine builds are creating a larger role for royalty and streaming capital across the mining sector. Speaking with Kitco Mining at the 2026 Mining Forum Americas in Colorado Springs, Heath said streams are becoming a “mainstream form of financing” as companies look for alternatives to traditional debt and equity. Heath also discussed Metalla’s growing cash flow, its approach toward the US$1 billion market-cap threshold, and the changing value of its 1.5% NSR covering Gosselin and portions of Côté. He said Metalla paid about $6 million for the royalty, while analysts now carry its present value at roughly $120 million. Heath also addressed Tether’s growing position in the company and said Metalla remains selective on acquisitions, adding, “we are not going to grow for the sake of growth.”
