Why physical metals matter more in a digital system | Jenny Shaigec
Jenny Shaigec, CEO of Sandpiper Trading, says the shift toward tokenized real-world assets raises new questions about ownership, custody and control as more financial infrastructure moves onto digital systems. Speaking with Kitco Mining at the 2026 Precious Metals Summit in Beaver Creek, Shaigec said investors should look beyond cryptocurrency when assessing digital-asset regulation and argued that “if you think it’s just about crypto, it is not.” Shaigec also discussed the tokenization of gold, stablecoins and the future structure of the monetary system, arguing that physical precious metals still have an important role as financial assets become more digitized. She said investors should think carefully about custody and storage, warning that digital gold can be “tracked and traced” and explaining why she prefers direct ownership of physical metals.
