Copper giant says Mocoa has the scale, now it needs the mine plan | Ian Harris
Ian Harris, President & CEO of Copper Giant, says the company is shifting the Mocoa copper-molybdenum project in Colombia from resource growth toward development. Speaking with Kitco Mining’s Paul Harris at the 2026 Precious Metals Summit in Beaver Creek, Harris said Copper Giant expects to drill more than 23,000 meters in 2026 while working to upgrade the project’s inferred resource ahead of a pre-feasibility study. The company is also targeting its first PEA in Q4 2026, with Harris outlining a phased development concept intended to reduce initial capital requirements and allow Mocoa to scale over time. Mocoa hosts a 1.12-billion-tonne inferred resource containing approximately 12.7 billion pounds of copper equivalent. Harris also pointed to Colombia’s changing political environment, the country’s existing permitting framework and Trafigura’s involvement as signs that interest in large strategic-metal projects is increasing. He said Copper Giant is moving quickly on engineering, metallurgy and licensing work as it looks to further de-risk Mocoa and advance the project toward development.
