Galiano Gold’s 2027 reset: More ounces, lower costs, no hedge | Matt Badylak
Matt Badylak, CEO of Galiano Gold, says 2027 could mark a major operating and financial reset for the Asanko Gold Mine in Ghana. Speaking with Kitco Mining’s Paul Harris at the 2026 Mining Forum Americas in Colorado Springs, Badylak said production is expected to move back toward Asanko’s historical level of roughly 190,000 ounces next year as higher-grade ore reaches the mill. He also expects all-in sustaining costs to fall toward the low $2,000s per ounce, while a hedge covering 60,000 ounces at about $3,000 gold expires in December. “That really does drive up our cashflow,” Badylak said. Badylak said Galiano is also investing heavily in exploration, including roughly 34,000 meters at Esaase, where management expects significant growth in the Q1 2027 reserve and resource update. Longer term, higher-grade ore from Nkran could push production well above 250,000 ounces in peak years. Galiano ultimately wants to grow into a mid-tier gold producer, but Badylak said the priority is to improve Asanko and achieve a potential rerating before pursuing accretive M&A.
