Mineros targets Nicaragua growth while building gold treasury | Daniel Henao
Mineros is expanding gold production in Nicaragua while advancing new development projects across Latin America. Speaking with Kitco Mining's Paul Harris at Mining Forum Americas 2026, President and CEO Daniel Henao outlined a $25 million expansion at the Hemco operation, increasing processing capacity by more than 40% and targeting an additional 30,000 to 40,000 ounces of annual gold production in 2027. The company is also advancing its Porvenir project, where an updated prefeasibility study estimates $207 million in initial capital and a 37.9% after-tax IRR, with a potential construction decision in early 2027. Alongside operational growth, Mineros is building a gold treasury while maintaining dividends and a discretionary $175 million share buyback program. Henao said the company holds approximately 40,000 ounces of gold in its vaults, reflecting its strategy of retaining exposure to the metal. He also discussed community engagement at La Colosa in Colombia, development plans for La Pepa in Chile and a possible U.S. stock exchange listing.
