Gold Fields advances windfall toward construction after Quebec approval

Gold Fields is preparing to advance its Windfall gold project in Quebec after securing environmental authorization in October 2026, following a regulatory review lasting more than three years. Speaking with Kitco Mining's Ernest Hoffman at XPLOR 2026 in Montreal, Andréanne Boisvert, VP of Environment and Community Relations at Gold Fields, discusses the significance of the approval and the June 2026 Uukiimau Impact and Benefit Agreement with Cree leadership. Windfall is expected to produce approximately 300,000 ounces of gold annually once operational. Boisvert outlines plans to resume underground activities suspended in August following the expiry of a bulk-sampling permit, alongside preparatory civil works and worker accommodations. Gold Fields is working toward a potential final investment decision by February 2027, subject to board approval and remaining project requirements.
