First Mining Gold is advancing its Springpole gold project in Ontario toward a potential construction decision in 2028, while preparing a resource update and pre-feasibility study for Duparquet in Quebec in 2027. Speaking with Kitco Mining's Ernest Hoffman at XPLOR 2026 in Montreal, James Maxwell, VP of Exploration and Project Operations at First Mining Gold, discusses Springpole's June 30 federal environmental approval, agreements with Indigenous communities and the pending provincial environmental assessment decision. At Duparquet, approximately 50,000 metres of additional drilling have brought cumulative drilling beyond 300,000 metres. First Mining expects an updated resource estimate in early 2027, followed by a pre-feasibility study around midyear examining a more open-pit-focused development scenario. At Springpole, the company is targeting a feasibility study in the second half of 2027 as it prepares site-access infrastructure ahead of a possible 2028 construction decision.
