BERLIN, Jan 31 (Reuters) - German import prices cooled
off in December but at a slower rate than predicted, as hopes
build that inflation will ease in 2023, the statistics office
said on Tuesday.
On the year, import prices were up 12.6% versus expectations
for a 12.0% increase, according to a Reuters poll of analysts.
This compared to an annual import price index of 14.5% in
November.
Compared to the previous month, import prices fell in
December by 1.6%. Analysts polled by Reuters had expected a
monthly decline of 2.6%.
Over the whole of 2022, German import prices rose by 26.3%,
the strongest year-on-year spike since 1974, the statistics
office said.
