PRAGUE, Feb 1 (Reuters) - Czech manufacturing shrank at
a slower rate in January and producers were more optimism about
the outlook, although output contracted for the eighth straight
month, a business survey showed on Wednesday.
The S&P Global Purchasing Managers' Index (PMI) rose to 44.6
in January from 42.6 in December, remaining well below the 50
line that denotes growth in activity.
Analysts polled by Reuters had forecast a reading of 43.5.
The survey follows data on Tuesday showing the economy
tipped into a recession in the second half of 2022, counted as
two consecutive quarters of contraction.
The PMI survey showed orders decreased and input prices
increased, with material and energy costs taking a toll.
Manufacturers, though, were able to pass on costs to clients
despite weak demand, the survey said.
Month/Year 01/23 12/22 01/22
Purchasing Managers' Index 44.6 42.6 59.0
Output 42.7 39.9 57.3
