* U.S. gasoline stocks rose by 2.6 million barrels in the week ended Jan. 27 to 234.6 million barrels, the Energy Information Administration said on Wednesday.
* This compared with analysts' expectations in a Reuters poll for a 1.4 million-barrel rise.
* Northwestern European gasoline exports to the United States are expected to reach 185,000 tonnes this week, down from 325,000 t the previous week, according to Refinitiv analysis.
* But January gasoline exports on the transatlantic route were set to jump to a four-month high at 800,000 t, up from a revised 507,000 t in December, as U.S. refining woes and heavy maintenance raised demand, Refinitiv analysts said.
* EU countries will seek a deal on Friday on a European Commission proposal
to set
price caps on Russian oil products, after postponing a decision on Wednesday
amid divisions between member states, diplomats said.
* The European Commission proposed last week that from Feb. 5 the EU apply a
price
cap of $100 per barrel on premium Russian oil products.
* Separately, an OPEC+ panel endorsed the oil producer group's current
output
policy at a meeting on Wednesday, leaving production cuts agreed last year in
place amid hopes of higher Chinese demand and uncertain prospects for Russian
supply.
