Turkey - Factors to Watch on Feb 8

ISTANBUL, Feb 8 (Reuters) - Here are news, reports and events that may affect Turkish financial markets on Wednesday. The lira traded at 18.8305 against the dollar early on Wednesday, weakening from Tuesday's close of 18.8200. The main BIST 100 share index closed 8.62% lower at 4,505.34 points on Tuesday. GLOBAL MARKETS Asian equities rose, while the dollar wobbled on Wednesday after less hawkish than feared comments from Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell boosted risk appetite and investor hopes that the central bank may soon ease monetary policy. EARTHQUAKE The death toll of a devastating earthquake in southern Turkey and Syria jumped to more than 7,800 people on Tuesday as rescuers worked against time in harsh winter conditions to dig survivors out of the rubble of collapsed buildings. International support poured into Turkey and Syria to help search and rescue operations. President Tayyip Erdogan said he decided to declare a state of emergency in the 10 provinces hit by the earthquake. The decision was published in the Official Gazette overnight but it sill needs to be approved by parliament. ISKENDERUN PORT A fire that engulfed hundreds of shipping containers at Turkey's Iskenderun Port after massive earthquakes in the region have been extinguished, the defence ministry said on Tuesday, but it was not clear when operations would resume at the port. IRAQI OIL The Iraqi crude pipeline to Turkey's Ceyhan oil export hub resumed flows on Tuesday evening while a tanker docked to load crude, the first since a series of earthquakes on Monday, ship tracking showed and industry sources said.
