ISTANBUL, Feb 9 (Reuters) - Here are news, reports and events that may affect Turkish financial markets on Thursday. The lira traded at 18.8310 against the dollar early on Thursday, little changed from Wednesday's close. Istanbul's stock exchange operator suspended trading until Feb. 15 and cancelled trades made on Wednesday, in the wake of devastating earthquakes that struck Turkey and Syria. GLOBAL MARKETS Asian shares tracked Wall Street lower on Thursday, as a number of Federal Reserve speakers echoed Chair Jerome Powell in saying that interest rates are set to go higher, capping risk sentiment, while the dollar hovered near one-month highs. EARTHQUAKE President Tayyip Erdogan on Wednesday admitted there were problems with his government's initial response to a devastating earthquake in southern Turkey, amid anger from those left destitute and frustrated over the slow arrival of rescue teams. BORSA ISTANBUL Turkey's stock exchange decided to suspend trading for five business days after major earthquakes in the country. The trading will resume on Feb 15. TWITTER RESTRICTION Twitter was restricted in Turkey on Wednesday, two days after a major earthquake claimed thousands of lives but Twitter Chief Executive Elon Musk said full access to the social media platform will be re-enabled "shortly". TURKEY-SYRIA Turkey is working on opening two more border gates with Syria to enable flow of humanitarian aid to its earthquake-hit neighbour, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said on Wednesday. Separately, U.N. officials said the delivery of U.N. humanitarian aid via Turkey to millions of people in northwest Syria could resume on Thursday after the long-running operation was halted by a devastating earthquake in the region.
