ISTANBUL, Feb 10 (Reuters) - Here are news, reports and
events that may affect Turkish financial markets on Friday.
The lira traded at 18.8340 against the dollar
early on Friday, little changed from Thursday's close of
18.8360.
Istanbul's stock exchange operator has suspended trading
until Feb. 15 and cancelled trades made on Wednesday, in the
wake of the devastating earthquakes that struck Turkey and
Syria.
GLOBAL MARKETS
Asia-Pacific stocks fell on Friday, slumping toward a second
weekly loss as investors fretted about the potential for further
Federal Reserve tightening and the effect on the U.S. economy.
EARTHQUAKE
The rescue of several survivors from the rubble of buildings
in Turkey lifted the spirits of weary search crews on Friday,
four days after a major earthquake struck the country and
neighbouring Syria, killing at least 20,000 people.
QUAKE AID
The World Bank said on Thursday it is providing Turkey with
$1.78 billion in relief and recovery financing assistance as the
country struggles with the aftermath of the earthquake.
The United States said on Thursday it will provide $85
million in urgent humanitarian assistance to Turkey and Syria
after the quake.
INDUSTRIAL PRODUCTION The Turkish Statistical Institute will announce industrial
production data for December (0700 GMT). In a Reuters poll,
output was forecast to contract 1.35% year-on-year.
UNEMPLOYMENT The Turkish Statistical Institute will also release
unemployment data for December (0700 GMT).
NATO
Finnish parliamentary groups are expected to discuss on
Friday when to ratify NATO's founding treaties, in a move that
could lead the country to proceed with membership ahead of
neighbouring Sweden, amid growing support among the Finnish
public to go it alone.
