POLITICS Former Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi would not seek a meeting with Volodymir Zelenskiy if he were still head of government, because he blames the Ukrainian President for the war with Russia, he said on Sunday. Italy's two most important regions hold elections Sunday and Monday that will provide Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and her right-wing allies with their first ballot-box test since winning power last year. Polls close at 1400 GMT on Monday.


Italy is set to sign a new contract to sell four gas turbines to Azerbaijan, its industry minister said on Saturday ahead of his visit to the Asian country that is one of Rome's most important energy partners. (*) Italy will fully cut its dependence on Russian gas by the end of this year, Italy's Industry Minister Adolfo Urso said on Monday in an interview with daily Il Messaggero. DEBT The European Central Bank (ECB) must avoid pushing real interest rates too high, given the level of private and public debt in the euro area, ECB Governing Council Member Ignazio Visco told Warwick Economics Summit on Saturday. Asked how far interest rates could rise, the Bank of Italy's governor replied: "We don't know". TRANSPORT Unions at Italian airline ITA Airways on Friday threatened to call a strike after the company delayed signing off on a deal over salaries at the state-owned company, and urged the government to intervene on the issue. Union sources said the strike might take the form of a four-hour stoppage on Feb. 28. COMPANIES INTESA SANPAOLO Intesa Sanpaolo Private Banking targets a revenue growth of between 3.5% and 4% in 2023, with inflows also up about 4%, CEO Tommaso Corcos told Bloomberg in an interview, adding the group was "scouting for companies with between 8 billion euros and 12 billion of assets under management in Switzerland, where we are focusing on offshore clients." UNCREDIT Jayne-Anne Gadhia, founder of money managing application Snoop and former Virgin Money chief executive, has stepped down from the board of UniCredit with immediate effect, the Italian bank said on Friday. TELECOM ITALIA The Italian government may invest up to 2 billion euros
($2.14 billion) and buy a 20% stake in the phone group’s network unit to retain oversight over the asset, Il Sole 24 Ore reported on Saturday adding that a decision has not been taken yet. (*) SAIPEM The Italian energy group has signed two credit lines for a total of 860 million euros with a pool of leading national and international banks, it said on Monday. (*) JUVENTUS A first-half goal by midfielder Adrien Rabiot earned Juventus a 1-0 home win over Fiorentina in Serie A on Sunday, stretching the visitors' winless run to five games (*) LAZIO Goals by defender Davide Zappacosta and forward Rasmus Hojlund earned Atalanta a 2-0 win at Lazio in Serie A on Saturday as they overtook the hosts in the table to break into the top four. DIARY Italy, second of two-day regional elections in Lazio and Lombardy. Rome, Chamber of Deputies continues review of 'Migration Flows Decree' (1600 GMT). Rome, government convenes trade unions and employers' association on pensions. Milan, Industry Minister Adolfo Urso delivers welcome address at immersive exhibition "Useful Beauty" (1730 GMT).
