ISTANBUL, Feb 16 (Reuters) - Here are news, reports and
events that may affect Turkish financial markets on Thursday.
The lira traded at 18.8525 against the dollar at
0427 GMT, unchanged from Wednesday's closing levels.
The main BIST 100 share index closed 9.88% higher
at 4,950.47 points on Wednesday, after a five-day pause to
trading following an earthquake that has claimed more than
40,000 lives there and neighbouring Syria.
GLOBAL MARKETS
Bonds fell and the dollar rose on Thursday as roaring U.S.
retail sales had investors reckoning on interest rates staying
higher for longer to temper demand, though stock markets were
focused on the bright side for earnings and climbed a little.
EARTHQUAKE
Two women were pulled from the rubble in Turkey's southern
city of Kahramanmaras and a mother and two children were rescued
from the city of Antakya on Wednesday, as rescue efforts shifted
to getting relief to survivors nine days after a deadly
earthquake.
FOREIGN MINISTER
Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu will hold news conferences
with his counterpart from Costa Rica (0700 GMT) and NATO
Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg (0830 GMT).
PRESIDENT PROGRAM
President Tayyip Erdogan will meet NATO Secretary-General
Jens Stoltenberg (1030 GMT), the leader of nationalist party MHP
(1130 GMT) and the Prime Minister of Pakistan Shehbaz Sharif
(1230 GMT).
WEEKLY DATA
The central bank will release its weekly data on forex
reserves, bond and forex holdings (1130 GMT).
