South African Markets - Factors to watch on Feb 20

JOHANNESBURG, Feb 20 (Reuters) - The following company announcements, equity and currency market moves may affect South African markets on Monday. COMPANIES Anglo American Platinum financial results SOUTH AFRICAN MARKETS South Africa's rand on Friday recouped some losses from the previous session, when President Cyril Ramaphosa defended his decision to appoint a minister of electricity to try to end crippling power cuts. GLOBAL MARKETS Asian shares edged up on Monday as a U.S. holiday made for slow trading ahead of minutes of the latest Federal Reserve meeting and a reading on core inflation that could add to the risk of interest rates heading higher for longer. WALL STREET The S&P 500 ended lower on Friday, weighed down by Microsoft and Nvidia as investors worried that inflation and a strong U.S. economy could put the Federal Reserve on pace for more interest rate hikes. GOLD Gold prices were stuck in a tight range on Monday, as bets of more interest rate hikes from the U.S. Federal Reserve dimmed the outlook for non-yielding bullion and boosted the dollar.
