Canada annual inflation rate slows to 5.9% in January

OTTAWA, Feb 21 (Reuters) - Canada's annual inflation rate fell to 5.9% in January, largely on the base year effect, as gasoline prices, mortgage interest and food prices rose, Statistics Canada said on Tuesday.

Analysts polled by Reuters had expected the annual rate to fall to 6.1% in January from December.
