Italy - Factors to watch on Feb. 22

POLITICS Any peace that entails the surrender of Ukraine to invading Russian forces "cannot be a real peace," Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni said on Tuesday while visiting Kyiv. After talks with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy, Meloni dismissed Russian President Vladimir Putin's speech as "propaganda" as she pledged continued support to Kyiv. ECONOMY Italy is scrambling to unblock billions of euros in frozen tax credits that risk throttling the construction sector and leaving thousands of families in financial distress after the government abruptly discontinued a hugely popular green building scheme. ISTAT releases January CPI final data (0900 GMT). DEBT Treasury said on Tuesday it would offer up to 9.5 billion euros in bonds at auction on Friday. Treasury sells 3.25-3.75 billion euros new 3.40% BTP Short bonds due March 28, 2025 and 1.0-1.5 billion euros 0.10% BTPei bonds due May 15, 2033. Subscriptions close at 1000 GMT. COMPANIES (*)STELLANTIS The carmaker said on Wednesday its operating profit grew 17%in the second half of last year on strong product and pricing mix, despite persisting issues with logistic and semiconductor supply.


EBIT stood at 10.949 billion euros ($11.67 billion) in the July-December period. That topped analysts expectations of 9.63 billion euros, according to a Reuters poll.


The company also announced a 4.2 billion euro dividend on 2022 results, or 1.34 euros per share, and said it would propose a share buyback program worth up to 1.5 billion euros to be performed by the end of this year. (*) TELECOM ITALIA (TIM) The phone group said late on Tuesday that U.S. fund KKR & Co Inc has extended the non-binding offer for its prized landline grid by four weeks to March 24 following a government request. (*) LEONARDO The supply of military planes to Ukraine "is not on the table", Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni said during her visit to Kyiv. (*) DOVALUE The Italian bad loans manager said on Wednesday that its Greek unit had completed the sale of 630 million euros of NPL portfolios on secondary market to Sweden's Intrum . CAMPARI The company behind the Aperol spritz cocktail said on Tuesday demand for its spirits was holding up well in the face of rising prices and the industry was seeing more American drinkers switching from beer. ANIMA HOLDING Italian private equity fund Fondo Strategico Italiano (FSI) held 9% of the Italian asset manager as of Feb. 17, a regulatory filing showed on Tuesday, after beefing up an initial 7.2% holding it built last week though a reverse accelerated bookbuilding process. Board meeting on FY results (preliminary FY results released on Feb. 6). ITA AIRWAYS The Italian carrier said on Tuesday it had agreed to pay rises for staff, "a necessary step to allow the company to grasp the opportunities of market growth." Unions welcomed the announcement, saying once a deal was formalised they would call off a planned strike.


ITA is discussing with German carrier Lufthansa the selling of a minority stake in the company. STELLANTIS Board meeting on FY results, followed by conference call (1300 GMT). DIARY Rome, presentation of Nomisma report on "Management and development of coastal state property: management models"; European Affairs, South, PNRR Minister Raffaele Fitto delivers introductory remarks, expected attendees include Senate vice presidents Maurizio Gasparri and Gian Marco Centinaio; Tourism Minister Daniela Santanche expected to deliver closing address (1600 GMT). Rome, conference on "Cybersecurity shipyard: technological development and national strategic autonomy" (1400 GMT); Cabinet Undersecretary Alfredo Mantovano delivers introductory remarks; expected attendees include National Cybersecurity Agency's Director General Roberto Baldoni, Franco Ongaro from Leonardo , Enrico Resmini from state lender Cassa Depositi e Prestiti (CDP) unit Venture Capital; Industry Minister Adolfo Urso delivers closing remarks (1500 GMT).
