SOUTH AFRICAN MARKETS The South African rand strengthened on Tuesday after data showed that the country's unemployment rate declined for the fourth consecutive quarter in October-to-December last year. GLOBAL MARKETS Asian stocks rebounded from a two-month low on Wednesday as data showing China's manufacturing activity in February expanded at the fastest pace in more than a decade cheered investors, offsetting fears over rising interest rates. WALL STREET U.S. stocks closed out February in subdued fashion and each of the three major indexes ended with monthly declines, as investors continue to assess whether interest rates will remain high for an extended period of time. GOLD Gold edged up for a third session on Wednesday as the dollar pulled back, although fears of more U.S. interest rate hikes on the back of stubbornly high inflation kept a lid on prices.
