POLITICS Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni on Wednesday called on fellow European Union leaders to do more to halt illegal immigration and prevent further tragedies at sea, after dozens of people were killed in a shipwreck off Italy.
ECONOMY Italy posted a state sector budget deficit of 14.7 billion euros ($15.69 billion) in February compared to a shortfall of 4.3 billion euros in the same month last year, the Treasury said in a statement on Wednesday. TELECOM ITALIA (TIM) Italy's government is closely monitoring the developments of a non-binding approach by U.S. fund KKR for the former phone monopoly's fixed network assets, in full respect of the company's independence and so-called golden power legislation, Industry minister Adolfo Urso told lawmakers on Tuesday. TIM's top investor Vivendi has showed a cooperative approach in talks with the government, which could ease a solution for TIM, Urso added. STELLANTIS The car maker announced on Wednesday it had reached an agreement with Turkey's Koc Holding aimed at further expanding their joint venture Tofas which includes a change of the ownership structure of a local distribution unit.
Stellantis held a 31.84% market share in Italy's car market in February, Reuters calculations based on the data provided by the transport ministry showed. Industry-wide car sales rose 17.54% last month, the transport ministry said. (*) Leasys and Free2move Lease will consolidate their activities to create a new mobility company specialized in multi-brand operational leasing, in which Stellantis and Credit Agricole Consumer Finance will each have 50% shareholding rights.
