KYIV, March 7 (Reuters) - Ukrainian sunflower seed
exports may decrease 29% to up to 1.2 million tonnes in the
2022/23 September-August season amid in a stable work of the
Black Sea grain export corridor, analyst APK-Inform said on
Tuesday.
The Black Sea Grain Initiative was brokered by the United
Nations and Turkey last July and was extended in November, but
it is due to expire on March 18 unless an extension is agreed.
It aimed at ensuring Kyiv can keep shipping grain to global
markets.
Ukrainian sunseed exports reached a record 1.63 million
tonnes in 2021/22.
After the Russian invasion in February 2022, Ukrainian ports
were closed for about half a year and traders preferred to
export more expensive sunseed than grain by rail.
"If exports by deep-sea ports are suspended again ...
sunseed exports in the 2022/23 season could reach 2.5-3 million
tonnes," APK-Inform said.
Two senior Ukrainian government sources said on Tuesday that
Ukraine has started online talks with partners on extending the
grain export corridor.
Ukraine harvested around 10.5 million tonnes of sunflower
seeds in 2022.
