MUMBAI, March 17 (Reuters) - STOCKS:
The benchmark BSE Sensex rose 355.06 points, or 0.62%,
to 57,989.9, while the broader NSE index gained 114.45
points, or 0.67%, to 17,100.05 tracking the rebound in global
equities after authorities took a slew of measures to support
the global banking system, whetting risk appetite. RUPEE:
The Indian rupee strengthened 0.23% versus the U.S.
dollar, and quoted at 82.55 per dollar as broader market
sentiment improved after rescue of crisis-hit banks in the U.S.
and Europe GOVERNMENT BONDS:
Benchmark 10-year bond was quoted at 99.38
rupees, with yield little changed at 7.3511%; vs previous close
of 7.3526% ahead of the U.S. Federal Reserve's policy decision
due on Wednesday. OVERNIGHT INDEXED SWAPS:
The one-year overnight indexed swap rate was up 3
bps at 6.74%, while the benchmark five-year swap rate stayed fixed to 6.30%.
CALL MONEY/REPOS:
India's overnight call money rate was up 5 bps at
6.55% against 6.50% in the previous session. The overnight TREPS
rate was at 6.72%, compared with the previous
day's weighted average of 6.6114%.
