JOHANNESBURG, March 24 (Reuters) - The following scheduled economic events, company announcements, equity and currency market moves may affect South African markets on Friday.

COMPANIES Northam Platinum skips dividend despite profit jump amid takeover battle SOUTH AFRICAN MARKETS South Africa's rand strengthened against a weaker dollar on Thursday after the U.S. Federal Reserve signalled that it would pause its interest rate hiking path.


Stocks on the JSE closed slightly higher, with both the blue-chip Top 40 and its broader all-share index ending the day up more than 0.4%. GLOBAL MARKETS Asian shares were pressured on Friday after lingering banking stability concerns gripped Wall Street, while bonds bet the recent slew of rate hikes by central banks will be among the last of the cycle, allowing for policy relief later in the year. WALL STREET Wall Street closed higher on Thursday as market participants were reassured by U.S. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen's reassurances that measures will be taken to keep Americans' deposits safe. GOLD Gold prices eased in range-bound trading on Friday due to a firmer dollar, while investors digested the U.S. central bank's hints at a potential pause in its rate-hike trajectory.
