JOHANNESBURG, March 30 (Reuters) - The following scheduled economic events, equity and currency market moves may affect South African markets on Thursday.

SOUTH AFRICAN MARKETS South Africa's rand and stocks rose on Wednesday, as regulations to mitigate the U.S. banking crisis boosted global confidence. GLOBAL MARKETS Asian stocks rose on Thursday with fears easing on the banking front and the prospect of a break-up at Chinese conglomerate Alibaba offering an encouraging sign that Beijing's regulatory storm focused on tech companies might finally be clearing. WALL STREET U.S. stocks rallied on Wednesday, with all three major indexes ending up at least 1% as upbeat outlooks from Micron Technology and other companies eased some worries about the health of the economy. GOLD Gold prices edged lower on Thursday as easing concerns about the global banking system fed risk appetite and curbed some safe-haven bullion bids.
