MUMBAI, March 31 (Reuters) - STOCKS:
The benchmark BSE Sensex rose 1,031.43 points, or
1.78%, to 58,991.52, while the broader NSE index gained
276.85 points, or 1.62%, to 17,357.55 aided by high-weightage
information technology and financials stocks, as investors find
valuations attractive after a recent correction. RUPEE:
The Indian rupee strengthened 0.21% versus the U.S.
dollar, and quoted at 82.1650 per dollar on likely fiscal
year-end related inflows and strength in local equity markets. GOVERNMENT BONDS:
Benchmark 10-year bond was quoted at 99.60
rupees, with yield up 3 bps at 7.3176% vs previous close of
7.2897% after the government announced the borrowing calendar
for April-September. OVERNIGHT INDEXED SWAPS:
The one-year overnight indexed swap rate was up 3
bps at 6.79%, while the benchmark five-year swap rate rose 6 bps to 6.30%.
CALL MONEY/REPOS:
India's overnight call money rate was unchanged at
6.75% against 6.75% in the previous session. The overnight TREPS
rate was at 7.05%, compared with the previous
day's weighted average of 6.7703%.
