GLOBAL MARKETS Asian shares inched higher, while the dollar started the week on the front foot after the U.S. jobs data underscored a tight labour market, firming up expectations that the Federal Reserve will again raise interest rates at its meeting next month. WORLD OIL PRICES Oil prices were roughly unchanged on Monday as investors weighed the prospect of tighter supplies from OPEC+ producers from May against concerns about weakening global growth that may dampen fuel demand. The South African rand weakened against the dollar on Thursday as investors awaited U.S. jobs data and its implications for the Federal Reserve's monetary policy.


KENYA MARKETS


The Kenyan shilling weakened against the dollar on Thursday, as manufacturers hunted limited supplies of foreign exchange, traders said.


CONGO SECURITY


Islamic State on Saturday claimed responsibility for an attack on a village in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo that authorities said killed around 20 people.


ETHIOPIA SECURITY


Gunfire was heard in at least two towns in Ethiopia's Amhara region on Sunday as thousands protested against a federal government order to integrate regional special forces into the police or national army, residents said.


BURKINA FASO SECURITY


Unknown assailants killed 44 people in two attacks in northern Burkina Faso overnight on Thursday, authorities said.


NIGERIA SECURITY


Gunmen abducted at least 80 people, mostly women and children, in Nigeria's Zamfara state, a hotspot for kidnappings for ransom by armed gangs targeting remote villages, residents said on Saturday.


CHAD POLITICS


Chad's government ordered the German ambassador to leave the country within 48 hours, it said in a statement, a decision sources said was motivated by his comments about Chad's delayed transition to civilian rule after a 2021 coup.
