April 18 (Reuters) - Federal Reserve Governor Michelle Bowman on Tuesday said the U.S. central bank is watching closely for any further signs of stress in the banking sector, but for now conditions appear to have calmed.

"We are clearly very attuned to any challenges or changes that might require us to be responsive," Bowman said in answer to a question at an event focused on central bank digital currencies at Georgetown University's Psaros Center for Financial Markets and Policy. Asked about implications for monetary policy, she said banking conditions may affect the economy but that "my thought is we will see things continue in the same vein they were prior to the failure of those two institutions," she added, referring to the March failures of Silicon Valley Bank and Signature Bank.
