Turkey - Factors to Watch on April 20

ANKARA, April 20 (Reuters) - Here are news, reports and events that may affect Turkish financial markets on Thursday. The lira stood at 19.4025 against the dollar at 0420 GMT, weakening from its close of 19.3950 on Wednesday. The main BIST 100 share index closed 0.85% higher/lower at 5,061.22 points on Wednesday.


GLOBAL MARKETS Asian stocks edged lower on Thursday, while the dollar was on the back foot as investors remained cautious ahead of an expected 25 basis point hike in interest rates by the U.S. Federal Reserve next month.


ERDOGAN PROGRAMME Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan will attend a ceremony to unveil the first delivery of natural gas to the national grid from Turkey's 710-billon cubic-metre (bcm) discovery in the Black Sea. (1730 GMT)


BLACK SEA GRAIN DEAL Inspections of ships carrying Ukrainian grain from the Black Sea resumed on Wednesday under a U.N.-brokered deal but Kyiv faces a struggle to secure an extension of the agreement, as well as a widening import ban in eastern Europe.


HALKBANK Turkey's state-owned lender Halkbank shares surged 10% on the Istanbul stock exchange and the bourse's banking index climbed more than 4% after the U.S. Supreme Court on Wednesday gave it another chance to avoid criminal charges in the U.S. for allegedly helping Iran evade American economic sanctions, but rejected a key defence mounted by the bank.


DEBT STOCK The Treasury will announce debt stock data for March. (1430 GMT).


CENTRAL BANK DATA The central bank releases its weekly data, including on forex reserves.
