POLITICS Italy will do whatever it takes to unblock its third instalment of the EU pandemic recovery funds, which is worth 19 billion euros, European Affairs Minister Raffaele Fitto said in a statement on Saturday. Brussels has excluded projects for new Stadiums in Florence and Venice from the ones that can be financed with the EU cash, Fitto added.
ECONOMY Italy needs a sovereign wealth fund to funnel its large private savings into the corporate sector and boost the economy, Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni was quoted as telling the Milano Finanza newspaper in an interview on Saturday.
DEBT Meloni told Milano Finanza she was working with Economy Minister Giancarlo Giorgetti to increase the share of Italians who invest in government debt but ruled out a tax cut on income from domestic government bonds.

TELECOM ITALIA The government is monitoring the phone group's efforts to sell its landline grid and submarine cable unit Sparkle, but will not intervene unless there are risks for the country's national interest, Meloni told Milano Finanza on Saturday.
ENEL Meloni on Saturday told Milano Finanza that she was satisfied with government's nominations for the boards of state-controlled companies including Enel, shrugging off criticism voiced by some investors in Italy's biggest utility. CEO candidate Flavio Cattaneo plans to accelerate cost cuts and maintain dividend policy, Bloomberg News wrote on Friday citing people familiar with the matter.
(*) JUVENTUS Juve's 1-0 defeat at home to Napoli on Sunday leaves them in third place in Serie A. The result marked the team's first three-game losing streak in Serie A since 2011. Napoli, who won with a stoppage-time goal by forward Giacomo Raspadori, are now 17 points clear at the top and on the brink of claiming their first Serie A title since 1990.
