- The union representing movie and television writers said on Monday night that they were going on strike after talks with the major Hollywood studios, streamers and networks concluded without a new deal.


- Vice Media is preparing to file for bankruptcy as soon as within the next several days, people familiar with the matter said, a move that would mark a major fall from grace for a once-hot media startup that was valued at $5.7 billion at its peak.


- U.S. President Joe Biden is close to nominating Federal Reserve governor Philip Jefferson to serve as the central bank's second-in-command and Adriana Kugler, an economist and top World Bank official, to fill a vacancy on the Fed's board.


- The White House plans to end the COVID-19 vaccine requirements for federal workers, federal contractors and international air travelers on May 11, as the pandemic public health emergency ends.


- Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen said the U.S. government could become unable to pay all of its bills on time as soon as June 1 if Congress doesn't first raise the debt limit.
