May 2 (Reuters) - Canada's main stock index opened higher on Thursday led by a surge in technology shares, as positive comments on rates from Bank of Canada Governor Tiff Macklem lifted sentiment.

At 9:31 a.m. ET (13:31 GMT), the Toronto Stock Exchange's S&P/TSX composite index (.GSPTSE), opens new tab was up 61.2 points, or 0.28%, at 21,789.75.
