Feb 24 (Reuters) - Canada's main stock index opened lower on Tuesday, dragged down by mining shares as gold prices retreated on firmer U.S. dollar, offsetting gains in tech stocks.

At 09:32 a.m. ET, the S&P/TSX Composite Index (.GSPTSE), was down 0.38% at 33,649.33 points.
