Aug 18 (Reuters) - Futures tracking Canada's main stock index edged lower on Tuesday as rising global bond yields and continued uncertainty in the Middle East kept investors wary of riskier bets.
September futures on the S&P/TSX index were down 0.2% at 6:08 a.m. ET.
Oil prices gained as hopes of a U.S.-Iran peace deal faded, with Iran threatening a new offensive and the United States ruling out extending the ceasefire deal.
Brent crude futures traded around $91.06 per barrel, while West Texas Intermediate crude hit $85 a barrel.
Gold prices slipped 0.5%, pressured by higher Treasury yields and oil prices, while traders awaited minutes of the U.S. Federal Reserve's July policy meeting, due Wednesday, for interest rate outlook.
On the domestic front, home sales rose for a fourth straight month in July, according to data from the Canadian Real Estate Association.
Separately, Canada faces a new round of 50% U.S. tariffs this week, with negotiators for the two neighbors still far from reaching a draft trade deal.
In company news, NexGen Energy (NXE.TO), is sharing information and "talking regularly" with mining giant BHP about its Rook I mining project in Saskatchewan, CEO Leigh Curyer told Reuters on Monday, when asked about a potential equity stake.
