Bitcoin faces overhead resistance as markets brace for consolidation teaser image

Bitcoin Technical Outlook

Bitcoin closed marginally lower yesterday but remains within its bear‐flag consolidation. The daily RSI is approaching overbought territory above 70—potentially marking a pivot high—while the OBV’s moving average is flattening, signalling a return to choppy trading. Wednesday’s higher high in our bear‐flag setup suggests the next move may be a lower high before a renewed push upward.

Overhead resistance at the April 2025 low near $74,000 is likely to cap any rally, with a subsequent pullback toward the $65,000 region expected to establish a higher low. Despite two 4-hour TBO breakouts and a rising OBV moving average, the risk of a bull-trap remains elevated until Bitcoin decisively clears the $74,000 level.

Ethereum and Market Leaders in Consolidation

Ethereum’s daily chart appears less constructive than Bitcoin’s, as OBV and volume remain below their respective moving averages and the RSI has yet to test overbought levels. Both assets are effectively in bullish consolidation, but bear‐flag patterns and TBO slow‐line resistance underscore a prevailing macro bearish trend.

On the 4-hour timeframe, Ethereum has registered two TBO breakouts; however, the supporting indicators are weaker than Bitcoin’s, suggesting limited follow-through until key resistance near recent highs is overcome.

Dominance Metrics and Sentiment Shifts

Combined stablecoin dominance is trapped in a daily TBO Cloud, displaying lower lows and lower highs on the RSI. A drop below RSI 25 could flip momentum and trigger a reversal, as seen in January. Bitcoin dominance (BTC.D) remains bullish above its daily cloud but is losing RSI momentum after Wednesday’s overbought reading, a sign that BTC.D may roll over soon.

Others dominance (OTHERS.D) carries an open TBO Close Long signal, indicating a likely bounce to tag the daily TBO fast line. Total crypto market cap dominance (TOTALES) is approaching a pivot‐high scenario, with OBV poised to cross above its moving average and RSI climbing toward overbought levels.

Traditional Markets and Commodity Responses

The US dollar index (DXY) remains strong in its daily TBO Cloud, though a lower RSI high suggests waning strength. A swift push toward the 100 boundary is possible but will require fresh momentum. EUR/USD may benefit from its rising RSI, while USD/JPY shows bearish divergence after a TBO breakout cluster.

Equities continue in bearish consolidation: the S&P 500 and futures both carry open short signals, the Dow is down 1.6% with multiple bearish divergence clusters, and the Nasdaq and FANG indices remain under cloud resistance. The VIX has repeatedly spiked into rejection territory above 22, underlining elevated risk. In Asia, the Nikkei and Shanghai Composite display topping characteristics, and oil’s rally contrasts with gold’s muted advance, as gold merely retested its daily TBO fast line.

Altcoin Highlights and Bearish Setups

Most altcoins exhibit bearish consolidation within their daily clouds. XRP mirrors Bitcoin and Ethereum with weak volume and OBV, while SOL looks set to reverse near $81 following a fresh high. ZEC failed at its TBO fast line, and HYPE’s overbought RSI and declining volume signal a retreat. TON has pulled back to the fast line amid a sharply negative TBO slow slope.

DOT’s stall amid falling volume suggests further downside, and MNT may have peaked with its recent pivot high. Select 4-hour signals include ASTER’s second TBO close long and SKY’s late breakout candle. MORPHO shows bearish divergence on slightly higher highs, and CHZ, XPL and RIVER are testing final resistance zones. Short‐term overbought moves in tokens like H and PI warrant caution until confirmed reversals materialize.
