JOHANNESBURG, Feb 22 (Reuters) - The following scheduled economic events, company announcements, equity and currency market moves may affect South African markets on Wednesday. ECONOMIC EVENTS Finance minister presents 2023 budget in parliament COMPANIES AngloGold Ashanti reports full-year results SOUTH AFRICAN MARKETS The South African rand on Tuesday slipped to its lowest level this year, with investors awaiting the finance minister's budget speech due on Wednesday that is likely to provide cues on the government's policy trajectory. GLOBAL MARKETS Asian share markets followed Wall Street into the red on Wednesday as surprising strength in global surveys of services stoked fears that central banks would have to lift interest rates yet further and keep them up for longer. WALL STREET Wall Street posted its worst performance of the year on Tuesday, with the main benchmarks ending down as investors interpreted a rebound in U.S. business activity in February to mean interest rates will need to stay higher for longer to control inflation. GOLD Gold prices rose marginally on Wednesday, as investors awaited minutes of the U.S. Federal Reserve's latest policy meeting to assess prospects of further interest rate hikes.
