(Kitco News) - Equinox Gold (TSX:EQX, NYSE: EQX) informed today that mining activities at its Los Filos gold mine in Mexico have been temporarily suspended as the result of an illegal blockade by members of the nearby Mezcala community.

The company said that the blockade is preventing delivery of certain supplies to the Los Filos mine that are required to maintain operations.

"The company will engage with community leadership to find a solution that allows the mine to resume full operations," Equinox added.

Los Filos is located 180 km south of Mexico City in the municipality of Eduardo Neri, Guerrero State, Mexico. The Los Filos mine complex began commercial production in 2008. Equinox Gold assumed ownership following its merger with Leagold in March 2020.

The operation consists of three open-pit mines (Los Filos, Bermejal and Guadalupe) and two underground mines (Los Filos and Bermejal). Equinox Gold started mining the Guadalupe open pit and Bermejal underground deposits in 2021 as part of the Company's plans to expand Los Filos production.

For 2022, Equinox Gold expects Los Filos to produce between 160,000-180,000 oz of gold at AISC of $1,625-$1,700 per ounce of gold sold.

Equinox Gold is a Canadian mining company operating entirely in the Americas, with six gold mines, a mine in commissioning, and a plan to achieve more than one million ounces of annual gold production from a pipeline of development and expansion projects.
