Russian-based Nornickel reported that a fire broke out today in the cobalt section of Nickel Electrowinning Shop-2 at the company’s Kola Division (Kola MMC).

Nornickel is the world’s largest producer of palladium and high-grade nickel and a major producer of platinum and copper. In its H1 financial reports the company reported $9 billion in revenue.

"All staff were promptly evacuated from the shop," said the company. "No one was injured. The shop operations have been suspended. Fire-fighting units of the Kola MMC and Russia’s Emergency Ministry are on site to extinguish the fire."

The cause of the fire is being investigated.
