(Kitco News) - The National Institute of Statistics and Informatics of Peru (INEI) announced today that the domestic mining and hydrocarbons sector contracted by 2.08% in September 2022 over September 2021.
INEI said that this decline was a result of the negative performance in the country’s hydrocarbons subsector which contracted by 15.05% due to lower production of natural gas liquids (-28.2%), crude oil (-4.9%) and natural gas (-1.6%).
However, according to a report, Peru’s metallic mining subsector expanded by 0.05% in September due to higher production of iron ore (17.4%) and copper (12.8%).
INEI added that the overall increase in Peru’s metallic mining subsector was partially offset by lower production of molybdenum (-37.9%), zinc (-14.2%), lead (-10.8%), gold (-9.3%), silver (-8.3%) and tin (-0.8%).
