(Kitco News) - While Nevada is known for silver and gold, its established mining infrastructure also makes the state a good home for lithium, said Century Lithium's Spiros Cacos.
Last month Cacos spoke to Kitco at the Vancouver Resource Investment Conference 2023.
Century Lithium (TSXV: CYP) is focused on developing its 100%-owned Clayton Valley lithium project in Nevada, USA. Cypress is in the pilot stage of testing on material from its lithium-bearing claystone deposit and progressing towards completing a feasibility study and permitting. The company says that its eventual goal is to become a domestic producer of lithium for the growing electric vehicle and battery storage market.
The company touts its favorable jurisdiction. It anticipates a 40-year mine life. To process the lithium, the company plans to use direct lithium extraction using Li-PROTM technology from Koch Engineered Solutions.

Cacos, who was at the Vancouver Resource Investor Conference in Vancouver, was asked to gauge investor interest. Cacos said he is seeing more acceptance of the energy transition story.
"The gold guys are coming here," said Cacos. "We hear that 80% of the world's lithium is owned directly or indirectly by China. We realize that the United States and Canada have become dependent on foreign energy, so the idea of having a domestic lithium project—be it in Canada or the United States—to feed our own domestic demand is critical."
