(Kitco News) - Sigma Lithium Co-CEO Anna Cabral-Gardner said she expects her company to become the sixth largest lithium producer in the world.

In February Cabral-Gardner was interviewed by mining audiences manager Michael McCrae at the BMO Global Metals, Mining & Critical Minerals Conference.

Sigma Lithium (NASDAQ:SGML) is advancing its spodumene project in Brazil. The company said commercial production will start this year with annual production set at 270,000 tonnes of lithium concentrate. The company is also adding more capacity.

"[We] expect that within the next 12 months we are going to be able to triple the production capacity. Essentially, we're going to be the sixth largest producer in the world."

The company says it is going green. It will use drying stacking for its tailings. Energy comes from hydroelectric power. The company will also recirculate water at its production plant.
