(Kitco News) - The National Institute of Statistics and Informatics of Peru (INEI) announced today that the domestic mining and hydrocarbons sector fell by 0.77% in April 2022 over April 2021.
INEI said that this negative performance was due to the decline in Peru’s metals mining subsector (-4.73%), associated with lower production of zinc (-23.6%), silver (-4.4%), lead (-4.0%), copper (-3.1%) and gold (-0.1%).
According to the report, this was partially offset by higher domestic production of iron ore (7.6%), molybdenum (6.0%) and tin (1.5%).
INEI added that Peru’s hydrocarbons subsector increased by 26.20%, primarily due to the higher extraction of natural gas (47.9%), natural gas liquids (22.2%) and crude oil (14.9%).
