(Kitco News) - According to the latest figures from the Ministry of Energy and Mines of Peru (MINEM), gold production in Peru, the world’s eighth largest gold producing country, was 7,994 kg in June 2022, a decline of 4.1% compared to 8,333 kg mined in June 2021.
MINEM said that similarly, the domestic gold production of 46,278 kg in January-June 2022 period showed a year-on-year decrease of 0.6% primarily as a result of lower production recorded by Minera Aurifera Retamas S.A. (-12.5%) and Compañía Minera Ares S.A.C. (-9.9%).
This was partially offset by higher output by Compañía Minera Poderosa S.A. (+3.2%), a leading domestic gold producer, and Minera Yanacocha S.R.L. (+5.5%).
At the company level, Compañía Minera Poderosa S.A. maintained its first position accounting for 9.8% of total gold production in Peru in June, followed by Minera Yanacocha S.R.L. (9.1%) and Minera Aurífera Retamas S.A. (7.1%).
At the regional level, La Libertad kept the first position accounting for 32.7% of Peru’s total gold production in June, followed by Cajamarca (21.2%) and Arequipa (18.6%).
