Tevali Mining (TSX:TV) said today that a manager and a mining contractor are being detained by authorities near Trevali's Pekoa Mine in west-central Burkina Faso pending a trial on charges relating to the April 16, 2022 flooding event at Perkoa.

The company said it is working with its legal representatives to seek the release of the detained individuals. The company's shares were halted today.

Intense and unseasonal rainfall on April 16, 2022 near Perkoa created a flash flood that entered the mine property and breached the mine’s safety controls, flooding the underground mine and resulting in the deaths of eight workers. Perkoa mining and milling operations remain suspended following the April 16th flooding event.

Trevali's Pekoa Mine is a 90 percent owned and produces zinc concentrates. The 2,000-tonne-per-day underground operation and concentrator commenced production in 2013.
