(Kitco News) - Newcrest Mining (ASX, TSX: NCM) announced today that the Brucejack gold mine located in British Columbia, Canada has resumed mining and processing operations pursuant to a safety-first restart plan.
Earlier, Newcrest Mining reported that a team member from its mining and development contractor, Procon, was involved in a critical incident at Brucejack on Saturday, 22 October 2022.
On October 27, the company confirmed the tragic loss of life of a colleague and team member from its contracting partner, Procon, who was involved in an isolated incident at Brucejack on 22 October 2022.
Managing Director and CEO Sandeep Biswas said, “The devastating incident at Brucejack is a stark reminder that safety must always be our number one priority as a business. During the suspension of operations we reviewed all activities at Brucejack to identify major hazards and corresponding critical controls to prevent fatalities and life-changing injuries. We also established additional control verification mechanisms to ensure those critical controls are effective and working.”
The company also announced that FY23 production, cost and capital expenditure guidance for Brucejack remains unchanged.
