(Kitco News) - Africa-focused gold mining company Robex Resources (TSXV: RBX) announced today that the main plant at its Nampala gold mine in Mali has not been damaged after an intrusion of artisanal miners reported Thursday.
The company said its management believes that production will resume safely in the next few hours, adding that secondary buildings not essential to production were damaged, but it should not affect the restart of operations.
"The Nampala teams would like to thank all parties involved who have shown great solidarity in providing assistance to ensure the safety of our workers, including the Malian authorities, in particular the Malian army, community leaders, site managers and workers, and all suppliers," the company stated.
Earlier, Robex announced that yesterday, following an intrusion of artisanal miners in the perimeter of the operations, an incident with a gendarme has caused one death and one injured among the artisanal miners.
This incident caused a crowd movement forcing access to the site, the company said, adding that production has been temporarily suspended.
Robex also reported that all employees and subcontractors have been taken care of and are safe, no injuries in the Nampala staff are noted.
Robex currently owns two assets in the highly prospective Birimian Greenstone belt: the Nampala producing gold mine in Mali, and the Kiniero gold project in Guinea (Conakry). Robex is also active in exploration with drilling campaigns underway across its West African properties.
